Summary: The Land is our Mother: The Indigenous Beliefs of the Slavic Lands by Dr. Patricia Robin Woodruff

Through almost a decade of research into the religious practices of the Slavic lands It became apparent to Dr. Woodruff that the Pagan beliefs of the area are shamanic in nature and are the indigenous beliefs of the Central European people. While Woodruff’s research began around the area of the Black Sea, she could see commonalities reaching all around the area Dr. Marija Gimbutas would describe as Old Europe but also expanded beyond.

Dr. Woodruff’s research follows the evolution of spiritual practices. Dr. Woodruff takes us all the way back to the Paleolithic era and shows common threads of beliefs over many millennia. Woodruff’s research shows that the beliefs of the Stone Age hunter-gatherers spread with their migrations. As the beliefs spread to different lands, the spirituality adapted to meet the needs of the people. These common threads are shown through cross-cultural comparisons, linguistic evolution, and archeological finds.

Woodruff’s intensive research reveals the intersection of religion between Slavic, Norse, Celtic, and Scandinavian, but beyond that, how these foundational beliefs spread throughout the globe. One of the beliefs intrinsic in Paleolithic religion is the idea that the Land is our Mother. In discussing these commonalities, Dr. Patricia Robin Woodruff strives to bring awareness to our connection to the Earth and our connection to one another.https://parliamentofreligions.org
